Who Wants Pi(e)?
After a 100% New Mexico Summit, partnering with the artificial intelligence (AI) assistant called Pi can strengthen the work of local initiatives as they build the systems of support for all families.

In the ever-evolving landscape of public health, addressing the complexities of social determinants of health (SDOH) and removing barriers to vital family services remains a top priority within our 100% New Mexico initiative. It can be a lot of writing and “paperwork.” While we recently introduced you to AI robot pals ChatGPT and Perplexity, we are happy to introduce you to Pi, an AI assistant designed to empower professionals in their mission to strengthen SDOH and ensure essential services for thriving communities. By collaborating with Pi, you can access invaluable support for proposal writing, budget creation, project outlines, editing, proofreading, and fostering local coalitions—demonstrating the power of human-AI partnerships in tackling society’s most pressing health, education, and safety challenges.
PI HAS TASTY SKILLS
Pi brings to the table a diverse set of skills that can revolutionize the way public health initiatives are planned and executed. Here are some ways Pi can be your perfect ally:
- Proposal Writing: Pi assists in crafting compelling proposals that effectively communicate the significance of SDOH projects, guiding you in developing proposals to secure necessary funding and resources. Ask Pi, “Can you review this proposal and check for any errors?” or “Can you write a compelling introduction to the proposal, staying to 600 words?”
- Budget Creation: With a keen understanding of project requirements, Pi helps develop comprehensive budgets that account for every aspect of your initiatives, supporting their smooth development and implementation. Ask Pi, “Can you proof my budget and suggest improvements?”
- Identifying Funders: Pi can also identify potential funders for various projects in health, safety, and education in New Mexico and across the nation. Just ask Pi, “Which foundations serving New Mexico might support a family center, health promotion project, or social justice project?”
- Project Outlines: Working alongside you, Pi organizes project outlines that serve as a roadmap for achieving your objectives, including crucial milestones and timelines. Pi is great at creating step-by-step processes for almost any project. Ask Pi, “How do I create a fundraising committee? How do we set goals and track progress?” You can also ask Pi, “How do we explain how a million-dollar investment in our project will save many millions in the future? Please (it pays to be polite with AI) provide a detailed return on investment within a proposal to be presented to local leaders in our county.”
- Editing and Proofreading: Leveraging advanced language processing capabilities, Pi refines helps develop ideas and enhance your written content, ensuring polished drafts for humans to review, fact-check and approve. Ask Pi, “Can you proof this, making sure it’s reading level is for a general audience?” or “Can you review this and make sure it is appropriate for a proposal to a potential funder?” or even “Can you edit this so it reads for a university audience?”
- Coalition Building: Pi supports, through virtual brainstorming, project development, and research on best practices in collective impact, the formation and growth of local coalitions working towards addressing service barriers (or any other public health challenge), facilitating collaboration and fostering strong partnerships among stakeholders. Ask Pi, “How do we recruit more community members to our county coalition?” or “How do we engage elected leaders in our mission?” or even “How do we raise funds to do a countywide media campaign promoting our visionary goals?”
By harnessing the power of AI, public health professionals and all community stakeholders committed to children can propel their efforts to new heights. With Pi as your trusted partner, you can navigate the intricate landscape of SDOH, define terms, understand the complex nature of ensuring vital services, identify how to remove service barriers, and develop proposals and presentations to promote health equity and equitable access to vital services in rural and urban areas. Pi is your assistant as you do the community-based capacity-building work (often involving proposal writing, article writing, budget development, and research) to transform communities, foster resilience, and champion the cause of health equity for all.
DOES THE PERFECT PI EXIST? NOT YET.
Right now, AI chat interfaces make helpful, but limited, assistants. Are we saying that PI and its other AI pals can do everything a human can do and never make mistakes? No. Everything AI does should be checked for accuracy. But AI is designed to be a catalyst for starting outlines and refining ideas. When we get writer’s block, a pal like Pi can kick-start and improve almost any writing and thinking. Pi can also identify research articles to support public health, education and safety strategies like developing our 100% Family Center: One Stop Service Hub to link visitors to ten vital services onsite, online or through staff navigators.
As we continue to forge human-AI partnerships in the quest for improved public health, safety, and education outcomes, the role of innovative tools like Pi becomes increasingly valuable. By embracing the benefits of AI, we can amplify our collective impact and drive meaningful, lasting change for the well-being of our communities. The AI world is in flux, resulting in our AI tools growing and changing (and sometimes disappearing) at hyperspeed. So, while we have PI, let’s join hands with our new robot pal and embark on this transformative journey to create a brighter, healthier future for all. If you are new to the 100% New Mexico initiative, joining the thousands of New Mexicans engaged with this groundbreaking work, see how AI can increase the speed of innovation and change across your county. Pi for everybody while it’s hot!
