What We Discovered on Our 5-Year Road Trip to 100% New Mexico
Over the last five years, we have been blessed to find rich cultures, revolutionary creativity, courageous collaboration, innovative technology, and powerful problem-solving, all with a unique New Mexican flavor.

We have been reflecting on the past five years of the 100% New Mexico initiative in a process that prepares us for the next five years of profound transformation. We have discussed what a slogan would look like that effectively captures the essence of our “100% New Mexico” initiative, seeking to highlight the key aspects of what makes the initiative and its participants unique and impactful. We think we have one:
100% New Mexico: rich cultures, revolutionary creativity, courageous collaboration, innovative tech, and powerful problem-solving
Rich Cultures: This phrase emphasizes the diverse cultural heritage of New Mexico, showcasing an appreciation for the variety of backgrounds and traditions that contribute to the state’s identity.
Revolutionary Creativity: The term “revolutionary” connotes a bold and transformative approach to problem-solving, while “creativity” suggests that our initiative values innovative thinking and fresh perspectives.
Courageous Collaboration: This conveys a spirit of unity and determination in working together, highlighting the importance of partnerships and teamwork in addressing challenges.
Innovative Tech: By including “innovative tech,” we emphasize the role of cutting-edge technology in driving progress and facilitating change.
Powerful Problem-Solving: This emphasizes the ultimate goal of the initiative—solving problems and making a meaningful impact on the lives of those in New Mexico.
Sometimes that word “slogan” can have trite or shallow connotations. In this case, it comes from the heart. We believe this slogan communicates the values, goals, and strengths of the initiative in a clear and concise manner. It’s both engaging and informative, making it an excellent conversation starter for new and current initiative members who are engaged in the most groundbreaking social strategy in the nation. It also spotlights the 100% New Mexico initiative’s commitment to lift up 100% of our children, students, and families, ensuring each resident can access the ten vital services for surviving and thriving. Dr. Katherine Ortega Courtney
Katherine Ortega Courtney, PhD. is a changemaker, psychologist, author, and life coach. Her work in child welfare advocacy has instilled change in data-driven trauma prevention in states across the country. She has worked in policy and research and has led community initiatives through her work at the Santa Fe Community Foundation and the New Mexico Early Childhood Development Partnership. As a psychologist and life coach, she coaches individuals and organizations on interrupting the cycles of trauma, addressing the burnout rate in government jobs and child welfare, and providing the tools and skills to achieve the work-life balance that will trickle down to better outcomes in prevention. Her doctorate work at Texas Christian University was in experimental psychology focused on substance abuse treatment and prevention.

Dominic Cappello
Cappello is a New York Times bestselling author and TEDx Conference curator with decades of experience advocating for health, safety and education. He has a Master of Arts in Liberal studies with an emphasis on Language and Communication from Regis University. He worked for the New Mexico Department of Health Epidemiology and Response Division and the New Mexico Child Protective Services Research, Assessment and Data Bureau, where he co-developed the Data Leader for Child Welfare program, which he implemented in New York City, Connecticut and New Mexico.
