100%: THE SHORT ANSWER
New Mexico is poised to heal. We offer to the leaders of New Mexico’s most powerful institutions the strategy to end the predictable and preventable abuse, neglect, trauma, injury, and fatalities our children have endured for decades. The 100% New Mexico initiative, guided by half a century of research focused on the social determinants of health—the services that impact our quality of life—has assessed the families of New Mexico and their lack of access to ten vital services in a report.
We have identified service barriers and are now seeking funding for the 100% Family Center: One Stop Service Hubs to provide visitors with access to ten vital services for surviving and thriving onsite, online, and through staff navigators. 100% Service Hub Staff will also work to grow services across a county and address workforce shortages in healthcare providers, teachers, and social workers. To solve New Mexico’s long history of child neglect, traumatizing adversity, and injury due to service barriers, all our county initiatives require is government funding to launch the 100% Service Hubs to create a New Mexico where all families have the services to thrive at home, school, the workplace, and community. This work has the capacity to transform New Mexico into the safest place to be a child, gain an education, create a family, and start a company. Luckily, New Mexico has the financial assets to make our aspirational goals actionable.

100%: THE DETAILED ANSWER
PART ONE: A STRATEGY
The 100% New Mexico initiative has embarked on a transformative journey to address the adverse social determinants of health in New Mexico. Over five years, this groundbreaking effort has partnered with stakeholders in 17 counties to ensure families can access vital services that determine their health, safety, education, and quality of life. By turning scientific research into real-world solutions, the initiative is not just identifying challenges but actively working to create positive change. As public awareness grows and more New Mexicans join the call for reform, there is a palpable sense of hope and progress. This collective effort is laying the foundation for a future where all children and families in New Mexico can truly thrive. We have, after years of development and implementation, created a way to operationalize the process of transforming the adverse social determinant of health (lack of services) to the positive determinants (accessible and quality services).
PART TWO: A VISIONARY PLAN FORWARD
The 100% New Mexico initiative spearheads a visionary, multi-decade plan to transform the social determinants of health across every county in the state. This data-driven, collaborative effort ensures that all New Mexicans, from children to grandparents, can access the ten vital services for surviving and thriving. By addressing critical gaps in services like healthcare, housing, and education, the initiative is tackling the root causes of many public health challenges facing the state. Despite political hurdles, local leaders are dedicating significant resources to this capacity-building work, recognizing its potential to break cycles of trauma, substance abuse, and educational struggles. Through comprehensive surveying, data analysis, and community engagement, the initiative is not only raising awareness of these issues but also implementing concrete solutions. This groundbreaking approach represents a beacon of hope for creating a New Mexico where every family can truly flourish.
PART THREE: OUR SOLUTIONS
The 100% New Mexico initiative is pioneering an innovative, pragmatic approach to ensuring vital services reach all families across the state. At the heart of this strategy is the 100% Family Center: One Stop Service Hub, designed to remove barriers and provide ten essential services for surviving and thriving. This groundbreaking model aims to transform each county by offering services onsite, online, or through staff navigators while also focusing on growing the workforce in key areas like healthcare, education, and social work. Research on the efficacy of service hubs, particularly in rural contexts, lends credence to this innovative approach. New Mexico is well-positioned to be at the vanguard of implementing this promising model.
The scale and scope of this statewide effort are unprecedented in public health circles. With community engagement in place across the state, the implementation phase of the 100% Service Centers has arrived. This visionary work highlights the need for buy-in from local and state government leaders to realize its potential fully. With proper support, the 100% Family Center model has the power to revolutionize service delivery and dramatically improve the lives of children and families across New Mexico. The 100% Service Hub provides the operational base from which to identify service gaps, address service barriers, grow technology innovations, link service providers across the county, and become the county’s center for innovations in public health, education, and safety.
PART FOUR: OUR CROSSROAD
The 100% New Mexico initiative has reached a critical juncture in its mission to transform counties from under-resourced to fully-resourced communities. Despite the incredible progress made through volunteer efforts, the initiative now requires sustainable funding to implement its game-changing 100% Family Center: One Stop Service Hub in every county with the capacity to launch one. This funding challenge reflects a broader societal issue in New Mexico, where support for vulnerable families is not yet universally embraced. The proposed “1% for 100%” strategy, which would allocate just 1% of state, county, and city revenues to ensure vital services, represents a small investment with potentially transformative returns. With New Mexico’s substantial budget and “rainy day” fund above 30 billion dollars, the resources are available; what’s needed now is the political will to prioritize this investment in the state’s future. By funding the 100% Service Hubs, New Mexico has the opportunity to address the root causes of public health, safety, and education challenges, ultimately creating trauma-free communities and stronger local economies.
PART FIVE: OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The 100% New Mexico initiative has made remarkable progress in its mission to transform the social determinants of health across the state. Over five years, this groundbreaking effort has created a comprehensive framework for change, supported by the books Anna, Age Eight and 100% Community and other free educational resources, county-wide surveys, public awareness campaigns, and state-of-the-art training courses. The initiative has successfully shifted the social norm in New Mexico, challenging the notion that addressing childhood trauma and service gaps is too complex to solve.
By engaging elected officials, supporting local initiatives, and leveraging technology and AI, the program has built a strong foundation for systemic change. While direct service improvements are an important work in progress, awaiting the 100% Service Hub staffing to begin quality improvement work, the initiative has created a political climate where funding solutions are now a real possibility. This shift represents a crucial step towards a new norm in New Mexico, one where ensuring access to vital services for all families is seen as both necessary and achievable. The 100% New Mexico initiative is a testament to the power of persistent, data-driven advocacy in addressing long-standing social challenges.
PART SIX: OUR HISTORY, PRESENT, AND FUTURE
The 100% New Mexico initiative is a beacon of hope and progress in a challenging national landscape. While maintaining a positive focus on assets, the initiative acknowledges the complex historical and social factors that have contributed to adversity in New Mexico, including the legacies of colonization, racism, classism, sexism, and ageism. This candid recognition of the past is crucial for moving forward and addressing the urgent need for healing across all communities.
From its humble beginnings as book clubs discussing Anna, Age Eight, the initiative has blossomed into a powerful movement with growing political momentum. Its influence is now visible on social media, in state capitals, in city halls, county commissioner chambers, and school board meetings across New Mexico. This grassroots growth demonstrates the initiative’s resonance with caring individuals committed to positive change.
In contrast to the divisive national political climate, the 100% New Mexico initiative offers a path toward measurable and meaningful transformation. It presents an opportunity for New Mexico to lead in innovation and social progress. With continued support from elected leaders and engaged community members, the initiative is poised to implement solutions that can create a New Mexico where every child, student, and family can truly thrive. This vision of a united, caring community is a powerful alternative to the toxicity often seen in national discourse, offering hope for a brighter, more equitable future for all New Mexicans. We aim to transform New Mexico into the safest and most empowering place for every child to grow, every student to learn, every family to thrive, and every local economy to succeed.
The next step is clear: New Mexico’s lawmakers can invest a small percentage of our vast financial assets, combined with our expertise, to tackle New Mexico’s most pressing public health, safety, and education challenges. By turning our aspirational goals into actionable solutions, we create a New Mexico where 100% can thrive.
